Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.
The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would become a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
With the first season of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and the next chapter officially in the works—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.
About the Tremendous Fan Response
Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.
“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by online forums.”
“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.
The Central Mystery: Will Vince Gilligan Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?
Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.
“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a better idea. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
On the other hand, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.
“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
