The Streaming Platform is Developing a Far Cry TV Show from the Producers of the Alien Series and the Comedy Hit.
The most recent Far Cry game that players explored was Far Cry 6, which showcased Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the antagonist, Antón, and debuted on October 6, 2021. In the game universe, it is known for embracing violence and mayhem with the same excitement, all while weaving captivating, ideologically themed tales. No wonder then that FX's new order for a Far Cry limited-run show attracted two creators whose projects have exemplified all of those qualities.
About the Series
Inspired by Ubisoft's successful video game franchise, the limited anthology series will stream on Hulu and will be created by FX Productions. The anthology will also mirror the video games' format by introducing a fresh location and ensemble in subsequent series.
Executive Team
Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will work as executive producers on the series through their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be partnered by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had outstanding collaborations with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a total six series and 32 seasons of television, and we couldn’t be more excited that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” stated Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will deliver this story in a way that is original, gripping, and extremely entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our partners at Ubisoft for trusting us with this popular property.”
What’s Next
Mac will also feature in the show, but currently, we do not know what character that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently greenlit for a second instalment, with FX and Disney signing a new comprehensive agreement with the creator.
“Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly accommodating, trusting us with one of the most famous video-game worlds ever created. And along the way, my FX team continues to lift me up with their ongoing trust and support.”
“What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology-style series. Each game is a take of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a version on a premise,” said Hawley. “To produce a big action show that can change from one instalment to the next, while always delving into the nature of people through this multifaceted and chaotic viewpoint, is a ultimate goal. I’m thrilled to work with Rob and introduce our shared irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the audience.”
A time frame for when we can anticipate the new Far Cry show has not been announced. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus in other regions.
