Star Denies Anti-Vaccine Stance Following Lending His Voice To Contentious Coronavirus Film
Liam Neeson has lent his vocal talents to a feature-length documentary that questions the safety of vaccinations and praises one-time government figure the political figure.
The Documentary's Provocative Origins
Called "Plague of Corruption," the documentary is based on a well-known publication co-authored by a controversial scientist, who gained notoriety during the pandemic for claims that the virus was a result of a bad strain of the flu vaccine.
Her co-author, the executive producer, has also written books with far-right figure a known commentator. He took to social media celebrating Neeson's involvement in the project.
A Firm Rebuttal
A spokesperson for Liam Neeson have released a statement strongly denying implications that he subscribes to anti-vax views.
"Everyone can acknowledge that unethical practices might be present within the pharmaceutical industry, but that cannot be confused with rejection of vaccines," the statement explains. "He has never been, and is not, against vaccines. His long work with Unicef reinforces his long-held support for global immunisation initiatives."
It noted that the actor had no hand in the project's narrative and that inquiries about its claims ought to go to the creators.
Central Assertions Featured in the Feature
As presented, the narration provided by Neeson features several provocative points:
- It states that pro-immunization voices have demanded "blind obedience" to public institutions.
- It declares that "medical science has become deeply politicised."
- Robert F Kennedy Jr is interviewed stating, "The big problem with vaccines is that they simply are not properly vetted."
- The narration takes aim at stay-at-home orders, saying they caused severe distress that led to the loss of thousands of lives.
- Regarding the immunizations, it references a perspective that they were "hurriedly approved" and seen as "hazardous tests."
Previous Controversy and Ongoing Disputes
It also references a historical film about clinical trials on children, which was later the focus of a BBC apology by the corporation for violations of guidelines.
In recent weeks, Kennedy instructed the national health agency to revise its longstanding position that there is no link between immunizations and autism spectrum disorder. This supposed link is repeated in the documentary, even with a recent study from the World Health Organisation confirming no connection has been found.
An Earlier Record of Endorsement
Differing from the documentary's narrative, Neeson has in the past voiced clear advocacy for vaccines in his position as a charity ambassador.
In 2022, he called vaccines as "an extraordinary human success story," noting that "The debate about vaccines in the past few years has overlooked how much good they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest human endeavors in our history."
The documentary finishes with Neeson's script saying, "This isn't the finish of our narrative. This is the dawn of a fresh chapter."
